Prepare a One-to-Many Management Environment

To display and manage multiple RAID systems using SANWatch's initial portal screen,

1. you have to install individual Data Host agents to in-band host servers (one that is directly-attached to a RAID system or attached using Fibre Channel switched network).

2. Select a computer as a management station and install a Full version of SANWatch components onto this machine. The Management Host agent will be included and it will collect information from multiple, subordinate RAID systems.

3. A RAID system can also be managed through its Etherent port connection. If a RAID system is managed through Ethernet connections (out-of-band), the Data Host agents will not be necessary.

The Management Host agent also handles event notification and therefore a SANWatch management center should be a server running 24-7 operations. Without event notification, critical RAID events can be ignored and you may not be able to correct system faults on time.

The Management Host agent starts when the management center station is started.
